Cloudflare launches stablecoin payment gateway for AI agents — Monetization Gateway
Cloudflare has opened a waitlist for its Monetization Gateway, which lets customers charge for any resource on Cloudflare's network using stablecoin settlements. The infrastructure enables AI agents to autonomously pay for services in machine-to-machine transactions.

Cloudflare has unveiled a new payment solution called Monetization Gateway, designed specifically for machine-to-machine payments involving AI agents. According to a report by Ledger Insights, the company has already opened a waitlist for the service.
The core idea behind Monetization Gateway is to allow Cloudflare customers to charge for any resource sitting behind Cloudflare's global network, with payments settled in stablecoins. This creates a frictionless payment channel for AI agents that need to autonomously call paid APIs, purchase compute resources, or access data without human involvement.
Cloudflare stated that the explosive growth of AI agents demands an efficient, low-latency payment channel between machines. Traditional credit card and bank transfer systems carry high fees and slow settlement times, making them unsuitable for high-frequency micropayments. Stablecoins — cryptocurrencies pegged to fiat currencies like the US dollar — are a natural fit for this role.
The solution integrates deeply with Cloudflare's existing product lineup. Customers can deploy API endpoints, model inference services, data streams, or other resources on Cloudflare's edge network and set prices via Monetization Gateway. When an AI agent calls these resources, payment is automatically settled in stablecoins.
Cloudflare is not the first company eyeing the AI agent payment space. Firms like Stripe, Coinbase, and AWS are also exploring machine-payment infrastructure. However, Cloudflare's massive global edge network and existing CDN customer base give it a potential distribution advantage.
Industry analysts view autonomous AI agent payments as a critical piece of infrastructure for the AI economy — one that shifts commerce from “humans placing orders” to “machines transacting autonomously.” If agents can discover, call, and pay for services independently, the business models of the entire software ecosystem could transform.
For now, Monetization Gateway is in waitlist phase. Specific launch timelines, supported stablecoins, and fee structures have not been fully disclosed. Cloudflare's forthcoming official documentation will be key to watch.
