Anthropic launched "Reflect" on Thursday, a built-in dashboard for Claude that lets users track and visualize their AI usage habits. On the surface, it's an analytics feature showing what topics users discuss, overall usage patterns, and what kinds of tasks they turn to AI for help with.

But Reflect's larger purpose is about shaping how users think about AI itself. TechCrunch reports the feature subtly reinforces how much daily work now depends on Anthropic's chatbot by laying out all the tasks Claude has helped with in one place, making users see Claude as a tool they rely on in everyday life.

The dashboard periodically asks reflective questions such as "What's one thing you want to keep doing yourself, even if Claude could do it faster?" It also offers tools to set quiet hours or schedule nudges to take a break from AI, acknowledging the potentially addictive nature of working with AI chatbots.

TechCrunch draws a parallel to Gmail's old Meter feature, which showed users how central Gmail had become to their digital lives through numbers and charts. Claude's Reflect goes further by actively training users on how to use AI more effectively — for example, suggesting the Projects feature instead of re-explaining context across repeated tasks.

For Anthropic, this deeper integration also serves a strategic purpose: embedding Claude more deeply into daily workflows helps retain users and discourage them from switching to competing AI tools.

Anthropic notes that sensitive conversations appear only at a high level in the dashboard, and conversations connected to health integration tools are excluded entirely. None of the insight data is used for other purposes. Reflect is currently in beta for Free, Pro, and Max users who have memory enabled, with a time-spent view coming later.

Why it matters

Reflect signals a shift from AI feature competition to habit-building, with Anthropic using data visualization to create stickiness and pressure competitors to offer similar engagement metrics.
