Alibaba's Qoder Tops China AI Coding Market with 47.6% Share, Exceeding #2-5 Combined

IDC's latest report shows Alibaba's Qoder captured 47.6% of China's AI coding market revenue in 2025, exceeding the combined share of the second through fifth competitors. The agent-powered coding platform, launched less than a year ago, has reached 5 million users by offering a comprehensive product line spanning IDE, cloud agent, CLI, and digital employee tools.

IDC has released its China AI Programming Market Share 2025 report, unveiling the competitive landscape of the country's AI coding tools market. The Chinese AI coding market reached 520 million yuan (approximately $72 million) in 2025, with Alibaba's Qoder commanding a 47.6% revenue share — more than the next four competitors combined.

Launched in August 2025, Qoder is Alibaba's agent-powered coding platform. In less than a year, it has amassed 5 million users by offering a complete product ecosystem spanning individual IDE, cloud-based agent, command-line interface, and digital employee tools for enterprise deployment.

Unlike conventional model capability benchmarks, the IDC report measures actual revenue market share, suggesting Qoder's lead stems not just from the underlying Qwen model's coding performance but from strong productization — the ability to deliver model capabilities as stable, production-ready workflows.

The Qoder 1.0 update introduced a dedicated Quest workspace that centralizes task management, status tracking, artifact review, and knowledge retrieval into a single panel. This allows development teams running multiple parallel tasks to stay informed without switching between windows, addressing a critical pain point as agents take on more autonomous responsibilities.

For enterprise teams, Qoder 1.0's unified knowledge engine consolidates information from Memory, Repo Wiki, and Knowledge Cards. When an agent begins executing a task, it proactively accesses team standards, historical decisions, and coding conventions. After deployment, code retention improved by 11%, input token consumption dropped by 40%, and conversation rounds decreased by 33%.

Security is built across the full agent lifecycle: pre-task policy boundaries, runtime risk interception, and post-task audit trails. Code-level defenses span four tiers from regex validation to CI/CD integration, with data-local storage and encrypted connections for enterprise compliance.

On the model front, Qwen — Qoder's backbone — continues achieving SOTA results on coding benchmarks, scoring 60.6 on SWE-Pro, 78.3 on SWE-Multilingual, and 69.7 on Terminal Bench 2.0-Terminus. Qoder also maintains an open model policy, allowing users to choose from GLM, DeepSeek, Kimi, and other leading models.

Qoder's rapid rise signals that the Chinese AI coding market has reached a commercialization inflection point, with productization and engineering becoming decisive competitive advantages alongside raw model capability. The next question is whether Qoder can extend this momentum internationally.

Why it matters

The IDC report confirms that China's AI coding market has hit a commercialization inflection point, with productization and engineering — not just model capability — emerging as the decisive competitive advantage.
