Shanghai Jiao Tong University Demos 5 Medical AI Agents at WAIC, From Rare Diseases to Tumor Pathology

Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) has showcased five domain-specific medical AI agents at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC 2026) in Shanghai, covering clinical applications from rare disease diagnosis to tumor pathology analysis. The exhibition drew significant attention from attendees interested in practical AI deployment in healthcare.

The five agents address distinct clinical needs that have proven difficult for traditional software approaches. One system focuses on rare disease diagnosis, where limited clinical data and sparse physician expertise make large language models' knowledge retrieval and reasoning capabilities particularly valuable.
