United Imaging Intelligence Unveils 'Meta Hospital' Strategy at WAIC: Not a Virtual Hospital, but an AI-Powered Whole-Hospital Ecosystem
At the 2026 World AI Conference, United Imaging Intelligence introduced its 'Meta Hospital' strategy, proposing that medical AI should evolve from isolated tools into a coordinated whole-hospital intelligent system. At the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai, over 300 products made their global debut across 100,000 square meters of exhibition space. Amid robots dancing, LLMs conversing, and agents entering new industries, United Imaging Intelligence introduced a concept that felt both familiar and new — the "Meta Hospital."
This is not another metaverse story. The "Meta Hospital" strategy, unveiled for the first time by United Imaging Intelligence, has nothing to do with building virtual worlds. Instead, it aims to integrate scattered AI tools into a coordinated whole-hospital intelligent system. According to clinicians at the forum, the Meta Hospital expands the boundaries of physicians' diagnostic capabilities but will demand exponential increases in hospital computing power and comprehensive medical data.
Over the past decade, AI healthcare has produced numerous applications: imaging-assisted diagnosis, automated medical record generation, and LLM-powered clinical reasoning. But these tools mostly enhance individual steps in the care pathway. Real clinical scenarios involve radiology, laboratory testing, clinical departments, and follow-up management working together — no single AI can handle the complete care journey.
The Meta Hospital is built on four capabilities: data, models, agent orchestration, and clinical validation. On the data side, it requires a complete medical data infrastructure spanning collection, governance, and application. On the model side, United Imaging has built the "YuanZhi" multimodal medical LLM, which generates specialized medical agents. For orchestration, the system demonstrated a "Super Doctor" feature at WAIC — using voice commands to retrieve a patient's full medical history and perform liver surgery planning in VR, with real-time tissue dissection and clear visualization of vessels and ducts.
United Imaging has built capabilities across multiple layers of the medical industry chain: from AI-native hospital systems and intelligent chips, to the YuanZhi multimodal LLM and its agent ecosystem, to CT, MR and other embodied diagnostic robots. These components form a complete loop: devices sense real clinical data, knowledge is distilled from that data, models understand complex scenarios, and agents assist clinical decisions — pushing healthcare capabilities beyond the physical limits of hospitals.
As AI in healthcare moves from point tools to systemic transformation, the Meta Hospital asks a fundamental question: can a hospital's operating model shift from being determined by physical space and doctor headcount to being driven by data, models, and agents — freeing top-tier medical expertise from geographic and temporal constraints?
