Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has issued a stark warning: companies that rely entirely on a single AI model may not survive the competitive landscape ahead. Speaking to TechCrunch, Nadella argued that organizations without their own proprietary models — or without a layer of AI infrastructure known as AI gateways that separates their prompts from the model itself — will find themselves in serious trouble.

An AI gateway functions as a middleware layer that decouples enterprise prompts from the underlying AI model, enabling organizations to switch between different model providers without rewriting their applications.
