First Open-Source AI Unified Workstation JiuwenSwarm Launches for HarmonyOS PC

The openJiuwen community, co-built by Huawei's 2012 Labs, Huawei Cloud, and terminal XiaoYi teams, has released JiuwenSwarm for HarmonyOS PC — the first open-source AI unified workstation on the platform. The launch also introduces HITS (Human in the Swarm), a new human-AI collaboration paradigm that lets users work alongside AI agents as team members rather than just overseers.

HarmonyOS PC users finally have a dedicated open-source AI workstation. On July 29, the openJiuwen community — built collaboratively by Huawei's 2012 Labs, Huawei Cloud, and terminal XiaoYi teams — announced the HarmonyOS PC version of JiuwenSwarm, a swarm-agent platform that serves as the first open-source AI unified workstation for the operating system. Users can assign tasks, track progress, and deliver results within a single workspace without switching between multiple applications.

JiuwenSwarm simultaneously introduces HITS (Human in the Swarm), a new human-AI collaboration paradigm. Unlike the traditional Human on the Swarm model, HITS allows humans to enter the swarm as team members, collaborating with multiple AI agents in multi-person, multi-machine workflows. This represents a significant step forward for coordination engineering: after maturing inter-agent coordination, the field is now optimizing coordination between humans and agents.

In office scenarios, JiuwenSwarm demonstrated several practical use cases. A user on a high-speed train can activate a presentation team on their HarmonyOS PC via Feishu on their phone, getting the AI team working immediately. The process involves iterative human-agent collaboration: rejecting unsatisfactory outlines, pulling in expert agents for technical details, and iterating deliverables until they pass review. Users can also generate a 200-slide high-quality PPT in 20 minutes by simply specifying a topic, audience, and style preference.

Coding scenarios are equally impressive. Using JiuwenSwarm's Code cluster mode, users can assemble a mini development team — one member designs gameplay and UI, one handles frontend, one manages backend, one runs tests, and a leader coordinates. Frontend and backend development proceed on separate branches in parallel, merging into the main branch upon completion. Demonstrated examples include building a Tank Battle game and a calorie tracking app, both running successfully on HarmonyOS PC.

For entertainment, JiuwenSwarm supports human-AI team gaming. Users can create a Gomoku team where an AI agent acts as host, synchronizing the board and maintaining rules. In the more complex Werewolf game, multiple AI players discuss, debate, vote, bluff, and steer the conversation alongside humans for an immersive experience.

JiuwenSwarm is fully open-source and supports Windows, Mac, HarmonyOS, and Ubuntu. Users can download the HarmonyOS PC version from the openJiuwen website, configure a model service, and begin multi-agent tasks immediately. Source code is available on both GitHub and AtomGit.

JiuwenSwarm's HarmonyOS PC launch marks a major move in Huawei's edge-AI ecosystem strategy. The HITS paradigm redefines how humans interact with multi-agent systems — when humans embed themselves as team members within an AI swarm, the workflows for enterprise productivity, software development, and interactive entertainment are all up for reinvention.
