Tencent WorkBuddy launches 'Human-AI Co-Writing' for native AI-office collaboration
Tencent WorkBuddy has released version 5.3.5 with a new 'Human-AI Co-Writing' feature developed jointly with Tencent Docs. The update enables users and AI to collaboratively create, edit, and revise documents in real time within the same file, treating AI as a built-in collaborator rather than an external assistant.

On July 30, Tencent WorkBuddy released a major version update (V5.3.5) in partnership with Tencent Docs, introducing a 'Human-AI Co-Writing' collaborative editing capability designed for the Agent era. The new version supports users in opening Word, Excel, PPT, and Markdown documents and working directly with AI within the same file, enabling real-time co-creation, modification, and collaboration.
This update marks a shift from the traditional human-to-file interaction model of Office software, through the human-to-human collaboration of online documents, to a new human-and-AI paradigm. WorkBuddy's feature makes AI a native collaborator inside the document for the first time, claiming industry-first multi-endpoint synchronous collaboration across human-human, human-AI, and AI-AI workflows.
Previously, using AI for office work required constant context-switching between chat windows and document software. With the update, WorkBuddy embeds AI capabilities directly into the document editing environment. Users can select text, table areas, or PPT slides within the original file and instruct the AI via natural language. AI-generated content appears directly in the file, where users can continue editing, add comments, and the AI responds to changes in real time.
The upgrade centers on three core capabilities: broader file format support across Markdown, Word, Excel, and PPT for both local and online documents; precise selection-based editing where AI only modifies designated areas; and multi-user plus AI real-time collaboration where team members across devices work with the same AI partner with synchronized updates.
As AI agents become deeply embedded in enterprise productivity, office software is evolving toward a third generation. WorkBuddy is positioning itself as an AI-native office system that understands tasks, reads context, collaborates on editing, and manages business workflows continuously.
By daily active users, WorkBuddy has become one of China's most popular productivity agent tools, with full coverage across Windows, Mac, HarmonyOS, and Android. It integrates deeply with Tencent's ecosystem including Tencent Docs, Tencent ima, Tencent Meeting, Tencent Cloud Drive, TAPD, and Tencent Lexiang.
The Human-AI Co-Writing launch represents a significant upgrade to the interactive experience, redefining how people and AI work together seamlessly within the same workflow.
Why it matters
The Human-AI Co-Writing feature signals a shift from AI as a tool to AI as a native collaborator in office workflows, with significant implications for enterprise productivity in China.
