SpaceX's first post-IPO earnings: AI compute revenue soars 247% to become No. 2 revenue line
SpaceX's first post-IPO report showed Q2 revenue of $7.81 billion, up 92% year over year, with AI business revenue surging 247% to $2.56 billion — nearly a third of total revenue. The stock rose as much as 9.4% intraday before reversing to fall more than 6% after hours as investors weighed roughly $15.8 billion in AI capital spending and ongoing losses.

SpaceX, Elon Musk's rocket company, delivered its first quarterly report since going public — and the headline act was not rocketry but AI compute.
Revenue reached $7.814 billion in Q2 2026, up 92% year over year and above the roughly $6.9 billion analysts expected, while adjusted EBITDA came in at $3.538 billion, up 191%.
The standout was the AI business, which generated $2.561 billion in revenue, up 247% year over year and 213% quarter over quarter — close to a third of total revenue and now the company's second-largest revenue line.
AI advertising revenue slipped to $367 million, so the surge came from the "AI solutions and infrastructure" segment, which brought in $2.194 billion in the quarter.
The company said new cloud service agreements added $1.6 billion in AI infrastructure revenue during the quarter, and signed non-cancellable contracts now total $14.1 billion; earlier disclosures point to Anthropic and Google as its two largest AI infrastructure customers.
AI is also the biggest cost center: of roughly $18.37 billion in total capital spending in the quarter, AI accounted for about $15.83 billion.
The market reaction came in two acts — the stock climbed as much as 9.4% in regular trading on the revenue beat, then fell more than 6% after hours as investors refocused on the AI capex and ongoing losses, pushing shares back below the $135 IPO price. S3 Partners estimated short interest at about 206 million shares, roughly 32% of publicly tradable shares, and Musk warned on X that institutions holding large short positions long-term have "extremely low odds of survival."
SpaceX is quickly transforming from infrastructure built to train Grok into an AI cloud provider selling compute to outsiders, while satellite cash flow still funds the AI expansion. On the earnings call, Musk said "we expect the pace of AI development to increase significantly."
What to watch next: when the AI business turns profitable, and the pressure from post-IPO lockup expirations.
Why it matters
AI compute reselling is now SpaceX's fastest-growing revenue line, but the scale of AI capital spending makes the path to profitability the central question — and a fresh signal of how fast AI infrastructure demand is expanding.
