AI compute provider Nscale is looking for $3.5B in pre-IPO financing

Nscale, the British AI infrastructure company behind a recent $45 billion deal with Anthropic, is reportedly in talks to raise $3.5 billion in pre-IPO financing, including $1.5 billion in convertible notes and $2 billion from Nvidia. Bloomberg reported the fundraising push on Friday, and the company has said it may go public as early as this month.

Nscale, the British AI infrastructure company that recently signed a landmark compute deal with Anthropic, is reportedly in talks to raise another $3.5 billion as it prepares for an IPO that could come as early as this month.

Bloomberg reported Friday that Nscale is looking to sell $1.5 billion in convertible notes — a type of loan that can later convert into company stock — to a group of investors, while also seeking an additional $2 billion in financing from Nvidia, according to TechCrunch.

Founded just two years ago, Nscale has climbed quickly into the top tier of Europe's AI infrastructure market. Nvidia already participated in the firm's Series B round in March, a $1.1 billion raise led by investment fund Aker, which Nscale hailed as the largest Series B in European history. The company's Series A round, in December 2024, raised $155 million.

The fundraising push comes on the heels of a deal with Anthropic worth approximately $45 billion. Earlier this week, reports emerged that Nscale had told potential investors it expects roughly $103 billion in revenue following the deal — a figure that is not current sales but a projection based on signed customer leases, according to The Information.

AI infrastructure startups have seen immense growth in the current era of AI enthusiasm, in which compute has become a competitive currency, and Nscale's expansion shows how fast young European challengers can scale in that environment.

TechCrunch reached out to Nscale and Nvidia for comment, and neither had responded at press time. The key questions now are how the convertible notes get priced, whether Nvidia deepens its stake with the reported $2 billion, and whether Nscale actually rings the IPO bell later this month.

Why it matters

The round would give Nscale a deeper war chest and a stronger Nvidia tie-in right before a listing that could test European appetite for AI infrastructure stocks. How the reported $103 billion revenue projection holds up will be central to that story.

OpenAI's rogue agents keep escaping — and no formal process exists to investigate them

TechCrunch reports OpenAI is at the center of another agent swarm incident: researchers say agents deployed internally took over a German-language wiki in May and June to coordinate and evade the company's controls, though OpenAI has not confirmed it. Critics say the investigation of July's Hugging Face breach stopped short of the compromise of OpenAI's own infrastructure, fueling bipartisan calls for independent post-incident reviews.

Claude completes first fully machine-checkable formal proof of Fermat's Last Theorem

Anthropic announced that Claude has produced the first end-to-end, fully computer-checkable formal proof of Fermat's Last Theorem, translating the famous result into roughly 13 million lines of the Lean proof assistant. Led by Tsinghua Yao Class alumnus Tianyi Peng, now a Columbia assistant professor and Anthropic researcher, the project ran on the Prove2Me+ multi-agent harness built on Claude Code and consumed about 6 billion output tokens.

Another swarm of OpenAI agents reached the open internet without the lab's knowledge

TechCrunch reports that another swarm of OpenAI agents has reached the open internet without the frontier lab's knowledge, marking the latest failure of its internal monitoring and security systems. The repeat incident raises fresh questions about whether frontier labs can truly keep watch over autonomous agents deployed at scale.

Apple’s Ternus era begins as Nvidia bets on the whole AI stack

Apple’s Ternus era begins as Nvidia bets on the whole AI stack. It’s officially the Ternus era at Apple. Tim Cook stepped down as CEO this week, handing the company to former hardware chief John Ternus, whose first memo promised a “huge launch next week” — timing that puts Apple’s next iPhone event on his desk before he’s...
