Mashable reports that Nvidia's purchase of Hugging Face has been confirmed at $13 billion.

Hugging Face is one of the central hosting and distribution platforms in the open-model ecosystem. Developers use it to obtain public model weights, datasets and inference tooling, and many open-source releases treat their Hugging Face page as their de facto entry point.

Nvidia, for its part, is the most direct beneficiary of the current AI compute boom, with its GPUs and accompanying software stack forming the mainstream infrastructure for training and inference.

Putting the model distribution gateway and the compute supplier inside one company means the hub of the open-weight ecosystem is being absorbed into the industry's core AI infrastructure provider.
