Thread launches Automagically, a self-building automation agent for MSPs

Thread, an AI service management platform built for MSPs, announced Automagically on September 30, an agent it describes as the industry's first self-building automation agent, according to a release carried by EIN Presswire.

Rather than just routing a service request to a human, Automagically understands each request, builds the automation to resolve it, and resolves it again every time it comes back.

It works in one of two ways. A technician describes what they need in plain language and Automagically writes, tests and runs it; or the agent watches for patterns in incoming requests through Thread's intelligence layer and proposes automations before anyone thinks to ask.

Thread frames the launch against two decades of MSP reality: how much an MSP could automate came down to how many engineers it could afford. Historically, MSPs either bought an expensive automation platform and hired a team to run it, or ground through tickets by hand.

"Every MSP has the same backlog of things they know they should automate and never will, because the engineers who could do it are buried in repetitive work and escalations," said Mark Alayev, Thread's founder and "Chief of Magic." He added that the company did not build a better automation tool but got rid of the need for one.

The release cites an early customer: WheelHouse IT put Automagically on its live service desk this summer, and within eight weeks 15% of all ticket resolutions involved runbook automation. In that time, 25 technicians — not engineers — built more than 70 automations covering 90% of WheelHouse's Microsoft 365 workload. A technician-built offboarding automation was rebuilt with a multi-select option after a non-technical manager asked for batch handling, letting the manager offboard 24 seasonal employees in about five minutes, versus roughly three hours by hand.

Availability is limited: Automagically is live today with select Thread partners and requires Thread's AI Pro package, with MSPs able to request access at getthread.com ahead of its public debut.

Thread describes itself as an AI service management platform that lets MSPs run their business on conversations rather than tickets, and says more than 800 MSPs partner with it and that it has processed over 173 million customer requests.

What to watch is whether "describe-it automation" holds up under real ticket noise, permission boundaries and audit requirements — the test of whether MSPs can genuinely hire fewer engineers and buy fewer platforms.
