Google Brings Gemini and Auto Browse to Chrome Users in India

Google has launched its Auto Browse feature in India and extended Gemini in Chrome to Android phones, letting the assistant perform multi-step tasks across websites on both desktop and mobile. Access is limited to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers for now.

Google has launched its Auto Browse feature in India and brought Gemini in Chrome to Android phones, according to ETV Bharat. Auto Browse lets Gemini carry out a series of steps across different websites on a person's behalf, and it works on both desktop and Android.

Access is limited. Auto Browse is open to subscribers of Google AI Pro and AI Ultra, not to everyone, continuing Google's pattern of seeding its most advanced AI capabilities in paid tiers first.

The feature goes beyond autofill, which only types saved details into forms. Auto Browse can perform a whole sequence of actions: researching information across sites, filling in forms, and completing repeat online tasks. Google's own examples include booking parking for an event, ordering groceries, checking hotel and flight prices across different dates, and collecting the details needed for daily chores.

It can also take on harder jobs. A user could ask it to find products from a photo, compare prices, add suitable items to a basket, and then apply any available discounts, the kind of see-it-buy-it flow that pushes the browser from displaying pages to acting on the user's behalf.

The Android change matters too. Gemini in Chrome first arrived on desktop in India earlier this year but was not available on phones; Android users can now use it as well. They can ask questions about a web page and get summaries of long articles, and link Gemini to Google apps such as Keep and Calendar without leaving the browser.

The tool can also draw on Gemini's image capabilities, including Nano Banana, letting users create or modify pictures while browsing on their phones.

Because Auto Browse acts directly on websites, Google says it has added safeguards. Its models are trained to spot known threats such as prompt injection, where a page hides harmful instructions to trick an AI agent, and the system can stop and ask for approval before completing sensitive actions. Google says this keeps the user involved when a step could affect money, privacy, or other important matters.

The launch underlines how browsers are moving from simply showing pages to doing tasks for people, with the most advanced layer reserved for paying users. In a huge and price-sensitive market like India, that pay-first sequencing will shape how quickly the capability spreads.

Why it matters

Putting Gemini and Auto Browse on both Android and desktop advances Google's bid to make the browser an AI-agent entry point in the world's second-largest internet market, though the subscriber-only gate may slow adoption relative to the feature's buzz.

Researchers Say an AI Agent Fleet Likely Linked to Tencent Scraped Rival Alibaba's Amap Maps Data

A preliminary report from the research group Swarmchasers says a fleet of AI agents likely running Tencent's Hunyuan (Hy) models spent more than a week pulling data from Alibaba's Amap mapping service, peaking at 1,810 URL query scans on October 4 alone. The report also found 211 scans labeled “claude,” but the researchers concluded the fleet was almost certainly not Claude, since the code matches Chinese models.
