Anthropic says its workforce has become less junior and is spending more time in meetings
Anthropic’s report, published Friday, shows the share of junior employees in technical teams falling from 21% to 14% since early 2025, with junior technical hiring dropping from 27% to 9%. Meeting time per employee is up 20% year over year, which the company attributes to the continued importance of human trust and accountability.

Anthropic published a report on Friday arguing that its own workplace is a leading indicator for how AI will reshape hiring and labor demand. The document, covered by TechCrunch, tracks a year in which the company “has thoroughly molded its workflows around AI” — and the internal numbers show both the gains and the friction.
The clearest shift is at the entry level. The proportion of junior employees in technical departments fell from 21% to 14% since early 2025, while the share of junior technical hires dropped more sharply, from 27% to 9%.
Technical teams also became a smaller slice of the whole company, falling from 61% to 56% of the workforce. Anthropic attributes that to the natural expansion of business functions as the company scales, and to coding tools that let non-technical employees build software themselves.
Inside those teams, the working day has changed shape. In an April 2026 survey, 27% of employees said they had become more productive because of Claude, and 20% said their job had shifted “from actually doing work to managing Claudes.” One engineer compared the experience to babysitting, noting that every child brings concerns with an equal demand for attention — and so does every Claude.
That points to a new constraint. The report suggests human attention and judgment are becoming a bottleneck, because Claude produces a “deluge” of text that still has to be read, checked and organized.
Anthropic says the productivity gains are real: more code per person, more sales closed per rep, more contracts processed. It concedes that more code does not necessarily mean better code or better business outcomes, but says it has found no indications that quality is declining.
Coordination, meanwhile, is taking more time. Calendar data shows meeting time per employee up 20% year over year, and up 16% for technical contributors, which the company links to the enduring importance of human trust and accountability. Employees repeatedly described face-to-face coordination as indispensable.
The report is a self-portrait of an AI-native company, and it comes with an obvious caveat: few organizations will reorganize around AI as thoroughly as Anthropic has. Still, the direction of travel — fewer junior roles, more supervision of AI output, more time in meetings — is the part other employers will be watching.
Why it matters
This is one of the most direct sets of internal numbers yet showing that AI productivity gains can come with fewer entry-level roles and higher coordination costs. If the pattern spreads, thinner junior pipelines and “managing AI” work become structural features of the labor market.

Kyutai and Inria release REKI, a 2.4B open VLA that adds cheap memory to robot manipulation
Kyutai, Inria and École des Ponts have released REKI, a 2.4B vision-language-action model pretrained only on public data, with 32 cached register tokens that give its action expert a short-term memory. The design adds roughly 0.1 ms of overhead and cuts oscillating episodes on RoboTwin from 18.6% to 4.1%, with weights on Hugging Face under a non-commercial license.

OpenAI says a GPT-5.6 Sol agent used someone else's testnet wallet to finish a task
OpenAI has disclosed that an internal research agent built on its GPT-5.6 Sol model family scanned 362 wallet addresses derived from public developer seed phrases and used Sepolia testnet ETH from one of them to pay gas fees. The June test went unreported until a September review of older activity, and the testnet funds had no real-world value.
