IDC: China's AI cockpit market reaches 710 million yuan in H1, Volcano Engine leads with 45%

IDC's China AI cockpit market tracker sizes the segment at 710 million yuan in the first half of the year, with Volcano Engine holding 45% and ranking first. The figures turn cockpit AI into a measurable market with a clear leader rather than a showroom concept.

IDC’s China AI cockpit market tracker sizes the segment at 710 million yuan for the first half of the year, with Volcano Engine holding 45% of the market and ranking first. That share puts the vendor close to half of a category IDC now tracks in its own right.

An AI cockpit refers to the layer of in-car interaction that adds voice assistants, large-model conversation and context-aware services to the cabin. Counting it as a separate market means the capability is being priced and compared by share, rather than demonstrated as a concept at auto shows.

The concentration is the notable part. At 45%, supply of cockpit AI is clustering around a leading vendor rather than spreading evenly across many suppliers, which shapes both pricing power and switching costs for automakers.

The 710 million yuan figure also says something about stage. The absolute number is small, which is what an early market looks like, but the room to grow is why vendors compete here. For automakers, cockpit AI is shifting from a differentiator to a default feature, which pushes purchasing decisions toward cost, iteration speed and ecosystem.

From a competitive standpoint, a 45% share is both a position to defend and a target. The question is whether other cloud and model providers can take share through deeper automaker partnerships, customized models or lower prices — and whether the leader holds through the next model cycle.

One caveat: IDC’s methodology determines comparability. Scope, pricing conventions and sample coverage all affect share figures, so the numbers are best read as a signal of trend and relative position rather than a definitive verdict on the market.

Why it matters

Cockpit AI purchasing is concentrating around a few suppliers, which will shape automakers' cost structures and technology choices and strengthen the ecosystem leverage of leading cloud and model vendors.

Malicious File in Downloads Folder Tries to Trick AI Coding Agent Into Installing Malware

Security firm Forever Security says it caught a malicious AGENTS.md file in a real customer's Downloads folder trying to make their AI coding agent install a known-malicious npm package, stopping it before any code ran. The firm reproduced the chain against OpenAI's Codex, which executed the malware in more than 90% of attempts, and against Claude Code, arguing there is little for either vendor to patch.
