Insurify opens an AI Agent Gateway so personal agents can shop for insurance
Insurify launched an AI Agent Gateway on October 28 that connects a consumer's own AI agent directly to its insurance marketplace for live, comparable quotes. The gateway sets shared rules on consent, coverage transparency and privacy, an attempt to keep carriers in control as agents take over shopping.
Insurify, the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based online insurance marketplace, announced its AI Agent Gateway on October 28, a set of interfaces that lets a consumer's own AI agent connect directly to its marketplace and pull live, comparable insurance quotes.
The gateway offers three routes. One is a Model Context Protocol server for assistants and apps that use MCP. Another is a set of WebMCP tools on Insurify.com that let agents working inside a browser complete shopping steps directly instead of reading and clicking through pages. The third is a dedicated web interface optimized for personal agents that navigate sites on someone's behalf. All three connect to the same marketplace under the same consumer protections.
The rulebook is the substance of the launch. Consumers give explicit consent over how their personal information is shared; carrier quotes retain coverage details, attribution and relevant disclosures; consumer data stays inside Insurify's privacy and security safeguards; participating agents identify themselves and enter through an approved integration; and shoppers always keep a direct path to the carrier to review coverage and complete the binding process.
"People should be able to use the AI agent they choose to shop for insurance and have confidence in the information they receive," co-founder and co-CEO Giorgos Zacharia said, describing the gateway as preserving coverage details and personal information while giving carriers a new distribution channel.
This is not Insurify's first agent play; the company previously launched what it called the first ChatGPT plugin for insurance shopping. It now works with more than 120 carrier partners and says it has served over 330 million quotes across its platform and affiliates since 2016. The release notes that agents such as OpenAI's Dots, Meta's Muse and Instinct can access its real-time quotes.
Insurance is not a category where a price comparison ends the job: coverage limits, deductibles and eligibility decide whether a policy actually fits, and those are exactly the details agent-mediated shopping tends to compress. For carriers the risk is being misrepresented or mis-compared; for a marketplace, the prize is defining the rules of a new distribution channel.
Zoom out and this is part of an infrastructure race for agentic commerce. Payments, retail and travel platforms have spent the past year building interfaces and authorization schemes for AI agents. Insurance, with dense compliance and heavy information asymmetry, is a hard test of whether those rules hold.
What to watch: which agents and applications sign on to the gateway, whether rival insurance marketplaces publish comparable standards, and how regulators assign responsibility when an agent rather than a person completes a purchase.
Why it matters
The gateway gives agentic commerce a reusable template: the platform sets access rules, carriers keep control of product representation, and consumers keep consent plus a direct path to purchase. If rivals adopt it, insurance could become one of the first categories with agent-commerce standards.
