Volvo EX60 Grants Gemini Camera Access, Bringing AI Vision to Vehicles

Volvo has announced that its all-electric SUV, the EX60, will grant Google's Gemini AI assistant access to its onboard camera system. This gives Gemini real-time visual perception of both the vehicle's exterior environment and interior cabin for the first time.

According to reports from Chinese media outlet Sohu, the camera access will enable Gemini to understand driving scenarios, identify objects around the vehicle, and provide contextually aware assistance based on live visual input. This represents a major advancement for AI models entering the automotive environment.

Previously, in-vehicle AI assistants relied primarily on voice commands and pre-loaded data without the ability to perceive real-time visual context. With camera access, Gemini can offer suggestions based on actual road conditions, landmarks, or even cabin status, fundamentally transforming the human-vehicle interaction experience.

The partnership reflects a deepening integration trend between automakers and AI platforms. By opening access to core sensor data for a third-party AI platform, Volvo signals growing trust in and integration depth with AI capabilities within the automotive industry.
