Claude can now use your passwords to carry out tasks via 1Password integration

Anthropic has announced that Claude now integrates with password manager 1Password, allowing the AI assistant to securely sign into websites and perform tasks on behalf of users. The integration uses a credential delegation model where 1Password acts as a security intermediary.

Under the hood, Claude requests login access for a specific site from 1Password, which verifies user authorization before completing the login — all without passing the actual password credentials to Claude. This design keeps user credentials secure while enabling autonomous AI task execution.

The integration expands Claude's agentic capabilities from processing public information to performing actions behind authentication walls — checking emails, managing subscriptions, filling forms, and more. It was reported by Yahoo Finance Australia as a significant step in AI agent development.

This positions Claude in direct competition with OpenAI's ChatGPT, which already supports app integrations for agentic tasks. 1Password had previously signaled plans for AI integrations aimed at letting AI operate securely on behalf of users.

As AI agents evolve from answering questions to executing real-world tasks, password management and identity verification are becoming critical infrastructure components. The 1Password-Claude model — where AI acts without seeing raw credentials — could set an industry standard for secure AI agent operations.
