Mech-Mind Shows Robots Doing Real Work at WAIC 2026, Demonstrating Industrial and Retail Capabilities

At the 2026 World AI Conference (WAIC), Mech-Mind (梅卡曼德机器人) showcased its latest humanoid robots and robotic arms with a focus on practical utility. Unlike other exhibits featuring dancing, fighting, or running robots, Mech-Mind emphasized real-world task execution: a humanoid robot stood before a shelf, listening to customer orders and precisely picking items to a delivery counter, while a robotic arm assembled ultra-thin sheet metal parts of varying sizes at production-line speed.

In retail and home scenarios, the robots demonstrated strong generalization capabilities. Faced with a wide variety of everyday items — food, beverages, stationery, furniture, toys, and tools — the system not only identified objects but sorted them by category in real time. Transparent objects, traditionally a challenge for machine vision, were also handled successfully with clear bottles and containers identified and sorted accurately.

These capabilities are powered by Mech-Mind's proprietary "eye-brain-hand" integrated system. The "eye" is an industrial-grade 3D vision system that recognizes thin-walled components and transparent objects with high-speed imaging. The "brain" is the Mech-GPT multimodal LLM, accepting natural language and image instructions while reasoning about unfamiliar objects and environments. The "hand" is a dexterous gripper trained on massive real-world data to perform grasping, pinching, holding, and striking movements.

Founder Shao Tianlan shared his view on the robotics industry: "Manufacturing looks like a trillion-dollar market from afar, but up close it's ten thousand hundred-million-dollar markets." He noted that the industry is easy to start but hard to perfect, requiring patient resolution of endlessly complex engineering challenges rather than silver-bullet solutions.

Commercially, Mech-Mind has deployed over 27,000 units globally, serving more than 100 Fortune 500 clients.
