Alibaba Cloud tops IDC's China Data Agent assessment as only 4 of 18 vendors make the Leaders list

IDC has released its IDC MarketScape: China Data Agent 2026 Vendor Assessment report, placing Alibaba Cloud in the most leading position among assessed vendors in China's Data Agent market.
According to a September 1 report from Kuai Technology, 18 vendors were included in this year's assessment, but only four made it into the Leaders category — a significantly higher competitive threshold than in 2025.
Data Agent is a new-generation data intelligence paradigm that uses AI agent technology to link data integration, governance, analysis, and business decisions into an automated closed loop. IDC predicts that by 2028, 60% of China's top 500 enterprises will have deployed enterprise-grade Data Agents.
IDC noted that customer stickiness in the data domain is extremely high, and Alibaba Cloud's complete full-stack technology system forms barriers in both new customer acquisition and upgrades from existing customers. Full-stack capability and the degree of AI-native design have become the new competitive watershed.
On the product side, Alibaba Cloud's DataWorks Data Agent embeds expert suites and a Skill library, offering four agents covering data development, governance, analysis, and operations. Its AIDBS supports more than 100 multi-modal, multi-cloud data sources, letting users build agent applications without migrating data.
IDC specifically highlighted that coding capability significantly improves the accuracy and flexibility of data analysis, an area where Alibaba Cloud has built a differentiated moat — the company's Qwen series of large models inject semantic understanding and code generation into its Data Agent.
In customer cases, tea chain Guming cut the launch cycle for self-service analytics from days to 2-4 hours after adopting AIDBS, while logistics firm Cainiao built a SuperETL skill system on DataWorks that packages expert experience into composable skills and improved R&D efficiency tenfold.
Alibaba Cloud CTO Li Feifei said AI has entered a phase of explosive agent growth, and that Data Gravity will surely become mainstream; AI should take on complex work and deliver maximum value in enterprises' real operations.
