NVIDIA Commits $250M of UK Compute Over Five Years and Joins the Earthshot Prize

NVIDIA says it will commit $250 million of compute over five years to strengthen the UK's agentic safety and security research, delivering $50 million in accelerated computing access annually through BOLD at Oxford and SOFAIR at UCL and Imperial College London. It is also joining the Earthshot Prize as a Global Alliance Founding Partner, alongside UK deployments in healthcare, finance, energy and local government.

NVIDIA says it will commit $250 million of compute over five years to strengthen the UK's agentic safety and security research, delivering $50 million in accelerated computing access each year through BOLD at the University of Oxford and SOFAIR at University College London and Imperial College London.

In the same blog post, the company says it is partnering with the Earthshot Prize, joining as a Global Alliance Founding Partner to bring compute and technical expertise to innovators working on climate and sustainability problems. Tying compute supply directly to named research institutions and prize programs is a familiar pattern in NVIDIA's European ecosystem work.

The bulk of the post is a survey of deployments across UK industries. In energy, Fuse Energy is moving its customer AI onto in-house infrastructure built on NVIDIA B300 Blackwell Ultra, aiming for faster, more responsive support for more than 450,000 UK households.

Healthcare accounts for the densest cluster of examples. OneAdvanced is deploying what it calls the UK's first and most advanced fine-tuned LLM for primary care AI triage, built with NVIDIA Agent Toolkit software and open models and serving millions of National Health Service patients. Heidi has integrated NVIDIA Nemotron open models to give clinicians faster access to trusted medical evidence, and Speechmatics is deploying Oak, a multilingual medical speech recognition model, using NVIDIA Triton Inference on infrastructure that lets healthcare organizations control where sensitive patient audio is processed.

Hospital robots feature too: Apian, SYNLAB and NVIDIA are teaming up to use advanced computing and digital simulations with NVIDIA Cosmos to help hospital robots handle the heavy lifting of moving lab samples, freeing medical staff to focus on patient care. Danaher and NVIDIA are collaborating on autonomous science, bringing accelerated computing and scientific and physical AI into laboratory workflows and instruments; Danaher's recently announced AI-powered autonomous lab, designed for up to 8x faster discovery of affinity reagents, uses NVIDIA BioNeMo open models in its protein design workflows.

On the civic and sovereign side, the Liverpool City Region is building an NVIDIA-powered City Brain as a sovereign AI blueprint meant to serve as a model for dozens of unitary authorities across the UK, while Digital Jersey, Innovation City Belfast and the Tees Valley Combined Authority are each exploring how trusted AI compute can serve communities and public services. Sovereign AI company Locai Labs released Nemotron-Personas-UK, an open-source dataset of one million synthetic personas representing the UK's demographic, regional and cultural diversity.

Financial services firms appear in the list as well: LSEG and NVIDIA are bringing GPU-accelerated market analytics to global institutions; Revolut introduced PRAGMA earlier in the year, a foundation model for banking event sequences pre-trained on 26 million anonymised user histories that has moved from research to real-time scaling; Lloyds Banking Group built ATUM, a transaction foundation model that converts billions of banking transactions into reusable AI; and Starling is developing a banking foundation model.

Read as a whole, the post pairs a funding commitment with a deployment catalogue, using compute to lock in long-term relationships with UK research institutions and enterprises. The things to watch are the numbers: how the $250 million is allocated across five years, how the $50 million in annual academic compute access is actually delivered, and whether the healthcare and finance examples move from pilots into production systems.

Why it matters

Pairing a compute commitment with research institutions and industry examples shows how NVIDIA converts hardware supply into long-term ecosystem ties in Europe. For the UK, whether that compute turns into production systems in healthcare and public services matters more than the announcement itself.

PHANES AI Launches SeePhys Hub to Capture Whole-Body Motion and Touch for Ego Data

On October 14, PHANES AI, the robotics data company founded by Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) professor Yang Shuo, and Tianlong Mobile released SeePhys Hub, a whole-body multimodal data capture system. The rig combines a four-camera headband, wrist bands, waist and calf trackers and an optional haptic glove to recover full-body pose and hand contact pressure that first-person video alone misses.

A Jailbroken PlayStation 5 Is Now Running a 27-Billion-Parameter AI Model

An open source project called PS5LM has turned a jailbroken PlayStation 5 into a working local AI server, with no cloud bill and no gaming PC required. It ports llama.cpp onto the console and runs Alibaba's Qwen3.8-27B on the PS5 GPU at roughly 20 tokens per second.
