Gartner has published its 2026 Magic Quadrant for Observability Platforms report, naming Alibaba Cloud as a Challenger for the first time. Alibaba Cloud is the only Asia-Pacific vendor selected in this quadrant, marking a significant international recognition for the Chinese cloud provider.
The report evaluated major observability platform vendors worldwide on their ability to execute and completeness of vision. Alibaba Cloud earned its position based on its unified observability data platform CMS2.0 and its full-domain intelligent operations platform STAROps, showing strong competitiveness at the critical inflection point where AI Agent-driven autonomous operations, or Agentic Ops, are gaining traction.
Alibaba Cloud's CMS2.0 integrates the previously separate cloud monitoring service CMS, log service SLS, and application real-time monitoring service ARMS into a one-stop unified observability platform. It uses the UModel data model as its core to connect metrics, logs, and trace data, significantly reducing operational complexity while providing a unified, inferable data foundation for AI agents.
On top of CMS2.0, Alibaba Cloud launched STAROps, which provides enterprise-grade capabilities including RAM permission control, human confirmation for high-risk operations, agent behavior auditing, and end-to-end encryption. Enterprises can build dedicated SRE agents configured with specific responsibilities, permissions, and skills to autonomously schedule and execute operations.
Alibaba Cloud's observability services now cover APAC, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America, with OpenTelemetry data ingestion support. STAROps is also available on the Qoder Desktop plugin marketplace, integrating cloud resources, observability data, and expert knowledge to push operations from reactive firefighting toward proactive autonomy.
As enterprise-grade agent applications scale up, observability is evolving from a passive troubleshooting tool into core infrastructure for proactively driving business resilience. Traditional siloed monitoring approaches can no longer meet the cross-system, cross-domain data correlation demands of multi-agent environments.
This Gartner recognition strengthens Alibaba Cloud's strategic position in the global observability market. As Agentic Ops enters production environments, Alibaba Cloud is well-positioned to expand its global influence in intelligent operations and deliver AI-driven unified observability to more enterprises worldwide.
