China's First Chemical Industry AI Innovation Platform “Intelligent Chemical Industry Large Model 3.0 Pro” Launched in Dalian
China's first AI innovation platform for the chemical industry, Intelligent Chemical Industry Large Model 3.0 Pro, was officially launched in Dalian on August 31. Developed by the CAS Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics with iFlytek and Alibaba Cloud, it uses a four-layer large-model-agent-tools-scenarios architecture to move AI from Q&A toward planning, executing and verifying chemical tasks.
On August 31, Intelligent Chemical Industry Large Model 3.0 Pro, billed as China's first AI innovation platform for the chemical industry, was officially launched in Dalian at the unveiling ceremony of the Intelligent Chemical Innovation Center. It is the latest iteration of China's first large model built for the chemical sector.
The model was developed by the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences together with iFlytek, Alibaba Cloud and other partners. Compared with earlier versions, the biggest change in 3.0 Pro is a move from “understanding and answering” toward “planning, executing and verifying.”
3.0 Pro is built on a four-layer technical system: large model, agent, professional skills and tools, and application scenarios. Faced with a specific task, it not only understands the problem but decomposes the task, calls on specialized tools and skills to complete calculations, checks the results and finally produces a plan.
Ye Mao, director of DICP's artificial intelligence center and a research fellow, explained on site that whenever the model needs knowledge during logical analysis and reasoning, it calls on its agent library and skills library, which makes answers better grounded and more accurate.
The Intelligent Chemical Innovation Center, unveiled the same day, will be anchored at Dalian's Yingshishi Science City. Relying on DICP and Dalian University of Technology, it will build a public service platform for intelligent chemical engineering and explore a transformation chain that takes chemical research from the laboratory to the factory.
At the event, DICP signed agreements with iFlytek, Alibaba Cloud, Huawei, Ningbo Data Group (in preparation), SUPCON and AVEVA to establish a joint innovation laboratory for intelligent chemistry, while Dalian University of Technology also started construction of its interdisciplinary research institute for intelligent molecular engineering.
The chemical industry is one of Dalian's pillar industries and the largest pillar industry in Liaoning province. The newly released 3.0 Pro targets not a single knowledge Q&A scenario but the full process of chemical R&D, engineering design and production operations.
What to watch next is whether 3.0 Pro can take root in real R&D design and plant-operation optimization, and whether the innovation center can truly open the “from laboratory to factory” path of technology transfer.
