NVIDIA pitches open models to European retail: 90% cheaper serving at Shopify, warehouses simulated first
NVIDIA detailed European retail deployments built on its open models and accelerated computing, including Shopify post-training Nemotron 3.5 Lightning for a Sidekick subagent to cut serving costs 90 percent while answering seven times faster. Otto Group, Zooplus, Photoroom and L'Oréal also appear, with warehouse operations tested in Omniverse simulation before physical rollout.

NVIDIA used a single blog post to walk through a cluster of European retail deployments, spanning product discovery, agentic commerce and the physical work of warehouses and stores, all built on open or frontier models running on its accelerated computing.
The sharpest numbers come from Shopify. Its engineers post-trained NVIDIA Nemotron 3.5 Lightning using the NVIDIA Megatron Bridge library for fine-tuning and NVIDIA NeMo RL for reinforcement learning, then wired it in as the GraphQL subagent inside Sidekick, the merchant assistant.
On Shopify's internal benchmark, the post-trained model beat a leading frontier model on accuracy while cutting serving costs by 90 percent and answering seven times faster. With NVIDIA's CCluster vLLM inference optimization, NVIDIA says Shopify also saw 4.5x faster performance and up to 12x lower inference cost across five more use cases, from catalog enrichment to shopping simulation and recommendations.
On discovery, European pet retailer Zooplus rebuilt its stack with Infosys and NVIDIA; a production-ready prototype in its AWS environment reached 86 percent search accuracy using the Nemotron Retriever library plus a retail catalog enrichment blueprint that generates search-ready product attributes.
Visual content produced measurable commerce results. Photoroom's image editing API now standardizes roughly 40,000 primary images a day for Vestiaire Collective across 70 countries, and listings processed that way sold at a 5 percent higher rate of liquidity with 3 to 7 percent more unique views per product page.
L'Oréal appears on both the creative and the R&D side: Omi's ProductDrop anchors every generated image to an approved digital twin, running TRELLIS 3D asset generation on RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPUs for 10x faster inference and 4x lower pipeline latency, while NVIDIA ALCHEMI and the open-source OrbMol-v2 model compress ingredient screening from months to hours.
In the physical world, Otto Group and Reply extended a human-supervised autonomous warehouse program, built on Omniverse libraries and running on Google Cloud, to the group's largest fulfillment center in Haldensleben, Germany, where logistics teams can design and test operations in simulation before touching the building.
Read together, the point is not any single customer win but reuse: open models for language and retrieval, digital twins for space and process, GPUs for unit cost. The open question for European retailers is whether those percentages reproduce on their own data and workflows.
Why it matters
The competitive edge in retail AI now looks like unit cost and process change, not raw model quality, and the open-model-plus-digital-twin pairing is becoming the default recipe.
